Strength in Weakness: 2 Corinthians 12:10

2 Corinthians 12:10 (ESV)

“For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Context

In 2 Corinthians, Paul shares a personal struggle with the church in Corinth. He describes a “thorn in the flesh” that kept him dependent on God’s grace, despite his requests for its removal. Paul came to understand that God’s strength is most evident in our weaknesses. In this verse, he acknowledges that hardship can be a place where God’s power shines through, transforming difficulties into opportunities for spiritual strength.

Devotional

2 Corinthians 12:10 speaks to the paradox of finding strength in weakness. Our culture often pushes us to strive for self-sufficiency, but Paul’s words remind us that God’s power is magnified in our moments of vulnerability. When we stop trying to manage everything on our own, we make room for God’s strength to work in us and through us. This verse encourages us to see challenges as a means of growing closer to God, allowing Him to work through our imperfections and struggles. With God’s grace, we can endure hardships and experience His strength sustaining us.

Practical Tip

When facing a difficulty, pause and release your need to handle it alone. Ask God to fill you with His strength and to work through your weakness. Embrace His grace and trust that He will empower you.
