Habakkuk 3:19 (ESV)
āGod, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer's; he makes me tread on my high places.ā
Context
Habakkuk was a prophet who initially struggled with understanding why God allowed injustice and suffering. By the end of his book, however, Habakkuk expresses unwavering trust in God, even though his circumstances had not improved. In Habakkuk 3:19, he declares that God is his strength, comparing himself to a deer able to walk securely on high and rocky terrain, symbolizing how God enables him to rise above lifeās challenges.
Devotional
Habakkuk 3:19 beautifully captures how God strengthens us in the midst of trials. Just as a deer is agile and sure-footed even on the most dangerous paths, so God makes us steady and resilient when we face difficult circumstances. Habakkukās declaration comes at a time when there was no immediate sign of relief or change in his situation, yet his faith remained unshaken. This verse encourages us to rely not on our own strength but on Godās power to help us navigate the obstacles in life. When we trust in Him, He lifts us above our struggles, giving us the endurance and grace to continue moving forward.
Practical Tip
When faced with a challenge, remind yourself that God is your strength. Instead of focusing on the difficulty ahead, focus on Godās ability to sustain you. In prayer, ask Him to make you "sure-footed" like a deer, trusting that He will guide you safely through whatever high places you encounter.
