Trust in the Unseen: 2 Corinthians 4:18
2 Corinthians 4:18 (ESV)
“As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
Context
Paul writes this verse to encourage the Corinthian believers to focus on the eternal hope found in Christ, rather than the temporary struggles of this world. He contrasts the fleeting nature of earthly challenges with the everlasting glory awaiting those who trust in God.
Devotional
2 Corinthians 4:18 calls us to shift our perspective from the temporary to the eternal. Life often tempts us to focus on what’s immediately in front of us—our worries, possessions, or successes. Yet Paul reminds us that these things are fleeting, while the unseen realities of God’s promises are eternal. Fixing our eyes on what is unseen means trusting in God’s presence, His plans, and the hope of eternity with Him. This mindset helps us navigate life’s challenges with peace and purpose, knowing that God’s glory far outweighs our present struggles.
Practical Tip
Spend a few moments reflecting on God’s eternal promises, such as His love, grace, and the hope of heaven. Write down one area of your life where you can focus less on the temporary and more on what has eternal significance.
